Terms of use

Last updated 16 October 2026 · DC5

These terms govern use of the DC5 WHOIS instance operated by DC5 (web UI, HTTP API and the whoisx CLI against that instance). Operators of their own copies of the software must publish their own terms.

The service

We provide a free, best-effort lookup of publicly available registration, DNS and on-chain name data. There is no SLA, uptime warranty or support contract unless we agree one in writing. Features and data sources may change or be switched off at any time.

Your responsibilities

  • Use the service only for lawful infrastructure, security and research purposes.
  • Comply with the acceptable use rules and with the terms of upstream RDAP, WHOIS, DNS and RPC operators.
  • Do not rely on a lookup as proof of legal ownership, geolocation accuracy or that a name is “safe”.

Accounts and fees

No registration is required. The public instance is not a paid product unless a separate agreement says so.

Rate limits and blocking

Default API rate limiting is a per-IP token bucket (typically 60 requests per minute, configurable). We may refuse, throttle or block clients that degrade the service or upstream registries.

Intellectual property

The DC5 name, logo and this console’s look are DC5’s. Upstream records remain the data of their publishers. You may use lookup results for your own operational purposes. You may not scrape the service to build a competing bulk WHOIS database.

Liability

The service is provided “as is”. To the extent permitted by Ukraine law, DC5 is not liable for inaccurate registry data, RPC or DNS failures, or decisions you make from a lookup. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law. See the disclaimer.

Changes

Updates are dated at the top of this page. Continued use after an update means you accept the new terms where that is allowed.

Governing law

Law of Ukraine; competent courts at the operator’s location (Kharkiv, Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine), without prejudice to mandatory consumer protections where they apply.
